Lisa Kerr

Lisa KerrLisa Kerr has been a high school science teacher for 20 years. She currently teaches Biology and AP/IB Environmental Science at San Clemente High School. Lisa works with her students on a variety of community projects and takes them on a number of field studies during the school year. She has been recognized as an Earth Hero by CBS and the Wyland Foundation in 2011. She was awarded the Stephanie Dorey Award in 2013 for Environmental stewardship and service in San Clemente; in 2006 she was the recipient of the Blue Water Award also from the city. She has served as Science Department Chair, has been a member of the leadership team for ten years, and has mentored several new teachers over the years as a Master Teacher.

Lisa’s passion is inspiring students to understand the world in which they live and how they can make a positive difference in their community. She takes 50 students to Yosemite annually for a four-day field study of the Sierra Nevada ecosystem, conducts monthly watershed cleanups, and runs the recycling program at her high school. In the community, her students have worked on dune restoration at San Onofre State Park, field studies in San Mateo Creek, and habitat restoration for Monarch butterflies with the California State Park. Lisa has been a nominee for both the Presidential Excellence award in teaching science and for Project Tomorrow, a national education nonprofit group whose mission is to ensure today’s students are prepared to be tomorrow’s innovators, leaders and engaged citizens of the world. Lisa is currently one of the lead teachers with her district, working with the teachers and district to help smooth the transition into the new common core science standards.

Lisa graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BS in Environmental and Systematic Biology in 1981 and from Cal State Fullerton with a MS in Educational Leadership in 2005.
