James Estabrook

James EstabrookMr. Estabrook instructs students in Advanced Placement Environmental Science and Chemistry at North High where he has been teaching for the past 10 years. As faculty sponsor of the Ecology Club on campus, he and his students enjoy hiking, kayaking, tending to the campus native plant garden, and propagating vegetable seedlings and succulents for the community. Mr. Estabrook was recognized as LA County Teacher of the Year and as a Finalist for California Teacher of the Year. He has been awarded several grants for work related to sustainability and the environment. Since starting his teaching career 18 years ago, Mr. Estabrook has tried to demonstrate the work ethic, enthusiasm, and a love for students that he learned from his mentor Ms. Terri Stevens. He continuously feels inspired by his students’ hard work, creativity, positive attitude, and Rubik’s Cube solving abilities. Outside of school, Mr. Estabrook enjoys traveling in the United States and abroad with his family, gardening, reading, and bodysurfing. He coaches youth soccer and baseball in the Torrance community.

Mr. Estabrook earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Toxicology from U.C. Davis and his Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from CSU Dominguez Hills. Mr. Estabrook is also an experienced whitewater river rafting guide.
