Jennifer Walters is a science teacher at Corona del Mar High School. She has taught AP, Honors, and general biology there for the last 15 years. Ms. Walters loves helping her students discover how science interacts with their lives outside of the classroom.
In order to foster a more global understanding of the world she has traveled extensively with students. Included in her travels was a volunteer expedition to a Luo village in Kenya with the focus on aiding in building a medical clinic. In Costa Rica the focus was experiencing the different biomes in Central America. In the Galapagos the students were able to walk in the footsteps of Darwin, experiencing the unique flora and fauna of the islands.
During her tenure at Corona del Mar she has been recognized as an outstanding educator, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award (Exchange Club on Newport Beach), the Golden Touch Award (Community Service Program), Honorary Service Award (PTA), Excellence in Teaching (Stanford University and UCI) and the Super-Star Award for exceptional service-Newport-Mesa Unified SD.
Ms. Walters has also mentored new teachers. She was a master teacher for a student teacher working on her credential in Biological Sciences through UCI and a BTSA mentor for other new science teachers.
She earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology and her credential in Biological and General Sciences from UC Riverside. She earned her Master’s in Educational Technology from National University.
